Anga Art Collective was initiated by a group of friends in 2010, with a vision to engage with both the contemporary and the layered history of Assam through artistic practices.

We seek to create a space that engages creative and critical visual thinking based on the geographical and social landscape of the region. We feel that the contemporary art scenario in Assam reflects a tendency to maintain the status quo rather than experimentation. The members of the collective feel that there is a great necessity to challenge this stagnancy, and explore the possibilities of artistic responses that meditate on the regional specificities.

To date, the collective has maintained a fluid-structure where individual and collective practices go hand in hand. As a part of the collective practices, we host lectures, talks, and pedagogical events. We believe in sharing knowledge across disciplines and collaborating with other artists, village communities, ecologists, academics, and activists on different events and situations. The collective has developed images, site-specific installments, murals, videos both in closed and public spaces and aims to extend such activities to further dimensions. The kNOw school and Granary are two such initiatives.

In this journey of almost a decade, with limited resources, access, at least to mention the financial constraints, we have and are still walking through thick and thin. For us, the collective is a growing process rather than a closed ensemble. A continuous struggle of learning and unlearning, of thinking and feeling, of questioning and understanding the region and own practices and positions.
